Starting Point

Six typical starting situations

Not every company starts from scratch – and not every starting point needs the same entry route.

Building a new Microsoft 365 environment

Company formation, change of provider, or consolidation of several legacy systems.

Having a new tenant planned and set up technically

After a spin-off, merger, or strategic realignment.

Onboarding individual Microsoft services safely

Microsoft 365 is in use and another service such as Purview or Security Copilot is to be added.

Needing an assessment before or during onboarding

Clarity about the prerequisites before a new service goes live.

Reviewing and optimizing an existing environment

Organically grown, historically unstructured tenants.

Looking for a personal contact

For planning, implementation, and further development, instead of changing responsibilities.

Lifecycle

A new Microsoft 365 environment or an existing tenant? We support both.

Not every company starts from scratch. That is why we support both the complete build-out of new Microsoft environments and the extension and optimization of existing systems.

For new environments

  • Structured build-out of modern Microsoft 365 infrastructures
  • Secure setup of Microsoft 365 and Entra ID
  • Sensible security standards introduced from the start
  • A future-proof cloud and security architecture

For existing environments

  • Analysis of existing configurations
  • Review of existing security solutions
  • Optimization of policies and protective mechanisms
  • Introduction of additional services where needed
This page describes how we build, set up, and further develop your Microsoft 365 tenant as a whole. In-depth information on individual Microsoft services can be found on the respective service pages.
Area A.1 · Tenant Setup

Setting up new Microsoft 365 tenants

Your company needs a new Microsoft 365 tenant – for example after a formation, spin-off, or move from another platform. The goal is a technically well-planned and properly set up tenant that is designed from the start for security, scalability, and your actual needs.

01

Plan the tenant structure

Planning of the tenant structure, domains, and base settings.

02

Set up Microsoft 365 and Entra ID

Secure setup of the foundations for identities and collaboration.

03

Introduce security standards

Fundamental security standards from the start, instead of retrofitting them later.

04

Align the licensing basis

Aligning the licensing basis with your actual needs.

Area A.2 · Service Onboarding

Onboarding of Microsoft services

01

Onboard services technically

Entra ID, Defender, Purview, Security Copilot, or Agent 365 – matched to your environment.

02

Configure appropriately

Configuration in line with your environment and your protection requirements.

03

Roll out step by step

A controlled rollout instead of uncoordinated activation of every feature at once.

04

Document

Documentation of the configuration that has been set up.

Possible outcome: a documented, working tenant with the Microsoft services that are relevant for your company – ready for productive use.
In-depth information on individual services can be found on the respective service pages (see the “Supported Microsoft services” section below).
Area B · Onboarding Assessment

Onboarding assessment for new Microsoft services

Before a new Microsoft service is introduced, it is often unclear which prerequisites are actually in place. This applies in particular to dependencies, licenses, roles, and security requirements. An onboarding assessment creates structured clarity here, before or during the rollout.

01

Check technical prerequisites

Review of the technical prerequisites for the planned service.

02

Reconcile licenses

Comparison of existing licenses with your actual needs.

03

Evaluate roles and permissions

Evaluation of existing role and permission structures.

04

Classify security requirements

Classification of security and compliance requirements in the context of the rollout.

Possible outcome: a documented assessment of whether and under which conditions the rollout makes sense, plus prioritized recommendations for the next steps. This is an individually tailored assessment, not a standardized fixed-price product with a set name.

“A security assessment is part of our offering and is particularly suitable when the security posture of your overall environment is the focus. An onboarding assessment is narrower in scope and accompanies the rollout of a specific Microsoft service.”

Area C · Solution Optimization

Solution optimization for existing Microsoft services

A Microsoft service is already in use, but may not be fully utilized, has grown organically, or has not been reviewed since it was introduced.

01

Analyze configuration and usage

Analysis of the current configuration and actual usage.

02

Evaluate security and governance

Evaluation of security and governance settings.

03

Reconcile license scope

Comparison of the license scope with actual usage.

04

Optimize processes

Prioritized recommendations for optimizing operational processes.

Possible outcome: a documented optimization plan with prioritized measures – on request, we also support the implementation.

“An onboarding assessment accompanies the rollout of a new Microsoft service, before or while it goes into production. Solution optimization comes later: when a service is already in use and the existing configuration, usage, and security are to be improved in a targeted way.”

In-depth, service-specific optimization can be found on the respective service pages (Entra ID, Defender, Purview, Security Copilot, Agent 365).
Services

Which Microsoft services we onboard and optimize

Microsoft Purview

Classify and protect sensitive data and implement compliance requirements.

Microsoft Purview →
This page describes how these services are introduced, combined, and further developed within your tenant. The technical depth on each individual service can be found on the respective service page.
Approach

How the collaboration works

01

Clarify the starting point

Record goals, the existing structure (if any), and the planned services together.

02

Plan

Define the tenant structure, onboarding sequence, or optimization priorities.

03

Set up and implement

Carry out the technical configuration, onboarding, or optimization measures.

04

Document and hand over

Document the results and share them in a knowledge transfer session.

Benefits

What the collaboration changes for you

  • A technically well-planned and documented tenant instead of accumulated clutter
  • Services are introduced in a controlled way instead of activated without coordination
  • Prerequisites and risks are known before the rollout, not only afterwards
  • Existing environments become visible and are improved in a targeted way
  • A personal contact from the first planning session to ongoing further development
All benefit statements refer to technical and organizational implementation. Specific metrics or savings depend on your individual starting point and are not guaranteed across the board.
Delimitation

Microsoft 365 Consulting or a different service?

Microsoft Security Assessment

A focused security risk review of your overall environment with a results report. An onboarding assessment as described on this page is narrower in scope and accompanies the rollout of a specific service.

FAQ

Questions about Microsoft 365 Consulting

Do you also handle the technical setup, or does it stop at a recommendation?

On request, we also handle the technical implementation – from tenant setup and service onboarding through to optimization. The consulting does not end with the recommendation.

Do you also support companies that do not yet have a Microsoft 365 tenant?

Yes. The complete build-out of new Microsoft 365 environments is part of the offering, as is support for existing tenants.

What is the difference between an onboarding assessment and a security assessment?

A security assessment reviews the security posture of your overall environment. An onboarding assessment is narrower in scope and reviews prerequisites, dependencies, licenses, roles, and security requirements in the context of rolling out a specific service.

What is the difference between an onboarding assessment and solution optimization?

The onboarding assessment classifies prerequisites and risks before a new service starts. Solution optimization, by contrast, reviews a service that is already running and improves configuration, security, and usage during ongoing operations.

How does Microsoft 365 Consulting relate to Microsoft CSP?

CSP concerns licensing, contracts, and the purchasing route. This page covers the technical setup, onboarding, and optimization – regardless of how your licenses were purchased.

Can we have just individual services onboarded instead of rebuilding the entire tenant?

Yes. Service onboarding is also possible in isolation, for example when Microsoft 365 is already in use and another service such as Purview or Security Copilot is to be added.

What happens with an environment that has grown organically and become unclear?

That is what solution optimization is for: a structured evaluation of configuration, security, usage, governance, and license scope with prioritized recommendations.

Do we receive documentation at the end of the project?

Yes. Results from tenant setup, onboarding, assessment, or optimization are documented and shared as part of a knowledge transfer.

Is Microsoft 365 Consulting also worthwhile for smaller companies?

Yes. The service is aimed primarily at small and medium-sized companies, regardless of whether a tenant already exists or is to be built from scratch.
